After a few minutes, the black tarnish will disappear as if by magic (there may be a slight sulfur smell). Then rinse thoroughly and dry.
Caution: What you shouldn’t clean this way
Not every piece of jewelry can tolerate water or heat. Be especially careful with:
Pearls and mother-of-pearl: They are organic and extremely delicate. Never soak or brush them! Only wipe them with a slightly damp, soft cloth.
Glued stones (often found in costume jewelry): Water that is too hot can loosen the glue, causing the stones to fall out.
Soft gemstones (e.g., opal, turquoise, emerald): These often cannot tolerate temperature changes or soapy water. A dry microfiber cloth is usually sufficient.
